Take The Drop embellished by some tasty bottle-neck guitar is a light hearted tale about surfing, its theme in sharp contrast to Situation and its commentary on killing in the name of God (what do you do in a situation when the devil uses the name of God). With its thinly disguised references (all of our leaders are liars and you know they made a liar out of me) delivered over pounding acoustic guitar, it summons memories of Bob Dylans With God On Our Side.

Think Tank is another politically powered statement (Guantanamo Bay, imprisonment without trial) driven by Ashs emphatic vocal.

There is a musical surprise on just about every track, the segue that links Dont Worry a song about being true to yourself and the poetic Bottled Thunder (Ive wasted so many rainbows chasing clouds of rain) is beautifully constructed featuring more of Ashs understated electric guitar.

What this album reveals is the progress so far achieved by Ash on his journey into self expression.
Every sound on Give Signs emanates from this adventurous and exciting musician.

There is no bass guitar on the album; the foundations are laid by percussion which Ash creates with loops, a stomp box and foot tambourine, pots and pans, feet stomping on wooden stairs, the sounds of a cricket ball bouncing on wood floors.

With his latest album, Ash Grunwald continues to make contemporary blues and roots based music accessible to a younger, wider and ever growing audience.
